Quite simply put, Das Boot means "The Boat" in English. Is a Google Maps based game, inspired by WWI submarine combat. As a viewer you join 42 young men as they first set foot on this submarine. That status stayed on the mainland, because once at sea your life was beyond hell. A film that tickles all the sense. You can move your ships and hunt down your opponents' boats by right clicking on the map. These men were incredibly brave. The action is more than credible. Das Boot uses the classic film technique of bringing an outsider into the world of the film as a stand-in for the viewer (the person watching the movie). This is a tribute to all the men who served in the U-Boat service during world war II. What I thought would be a straight thriller set on a German U-boat, i was proved right, and yet so wrong at the same time. In all the Kriegsmarine, an assignment to a U-Boat was considered an honor and afforded you rock star status. You non-German speakers (all of you), are probably wondering why we chose to call this edition of TWIS, "The Das Boot Edition". In the game you control submarines in the North Sea and the Atlantic sea, hunting freighters and avoiding dangerous destroyers. Only a year before, Allied shipping was being sunk wholesale; now a pitiful few U-boats struggle to make a dent in the unending Allied convoys. In Das Boot we see the U-Boat fleet in decline. For those who have never heard of this, Das Boot shows what it was like to work on a German U-boat during the second World War. The game includes some clever collision detection algorithms, which means you can't move your ships over land.
